How to buy, how to sell Pre-Columbian Art
The market for Pre-Columbian art is relatively small. Buyers should begin by purchasing exclusively from very established dealers. The only viable alternative is to buy from reputable auction houses, but only a few of these houses include Pre-Columbian art in their program – and then often only on a sporadic basis. Moreover, Pre-Columbian art is often offered in sales under the category ‘Tribal Art.’ In contrast to other types of art, prices tend to be considerably lower at auction than in the best galleries. On the other hand, truly valuable works of Pre-Columbian are rarely offered at auction.
